5 Types Of Natural Dyes

Natural dyes are the dye that is extracted from the color pigments which are naturally presented in the flowers, roots fruits, leaves, barks, and pollens of a plant. These can be used to add color to your food and textiles .The best thing about them is that they are organic and free of any nasty chemicals.


Henna

Henna leaves are harvested from the shrub ”Lawsonia intermis.” Henna produces brown color tending towards a red-orange.


Saffron

The dye is extracted from the stigma of the flower, which is boiled in water and the color is extracted. It imparts a bright yellow color. The wool, cotton and can be dyed with saffron.



Indigo(natural)


Natural Indigo powder is an extract prepared from “indigo ferro tinctoria”. It is a seed of the plant. It is an amazing source of blues and has the ability to produce a wide range of shades.


Marigold

Marigold dye is extracted from the ground flower head of "the tagetes species". It yields vibrant yellow green-yellows and oranges.


Turmeric

This dye I obtained from the root of the plant “Curcuma longa”. The turmeric root is dried crushed in powder form and boiled with water to extract the dye.
